Leadership Principles That Build Real Wealth

Julian Naranjo · June 10, 2026 · 5 min read

In the Marines, I learned that leadership is not a title. It is a daily practice of accountability, long-term vision, and the willingness to act when others hesitate. It turns out those same qualities are at the core of financial freedom.

1. Leaders Plan Ahead

In combat, improvising has a cost. In personal finance, it does too. Leaders who build generational wealth do not react to the market — they set objectives, define their tactics, and act with intention. Whether that means securing a life insurance policy or consistently contributing to an IRA, the discipline is the same.

2. Accountability Creates Results

The biggest financial mistake I see is a lack of accountability. Without someone to tell you when you are off course — whether a mentor, an advisor, or a system — good plans go unexecuted. In my practice, I serve as that accountability point for my clients, just as my leaders did for me.

3. Leadership Development and Financial Mastery Go Hand in Hand

I have seen this in action through my association with Leaders Make Leaders, an executive mentorship organization based right here in Vista, CA. Their focus on mentorship, mindset, and financial mastery mirrors exactly what I preach to my clients: that becoming a better leader and building financial security are not separate paths. They are the same path.

When executive leadership principles — vision, discipline, service to others — are applied to personal finances, families do not just survive. They thrive.

4. Leadership Demands You Protect Your People

No good leader leaves their team unprotected. Yet millions of families are without adequate life insurance coverage, without a retirement plan, and without a financial safety net. As a Marine, this is unacceptable to me. As a financial advisor, it is why I do this work.
